About the position

In this role, you will be a member of the quantum electronics team, providing leadership and mentorship as we implement sophisticated electronics for control and readout of our current and future quantum computers. You will lead a team of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) designers and Radio Frequency/Analog Mixed Signal (RF/AMS) hardware engineers, collaborating with adjacent teams in the electronic, software, and quantum engineering areas to implement complex systems for use in the readout and control of our scaled quantum processors and deploy these systems to our quantum computers. You will mentor junior engineers, instilling industrial design practices and providing performance feedback. You will develop a deep understanding of the electronic control and measurement needs of quantum computers and contribute to project roadmapping and scoping, developing new capabilities and anticipating future needs by collaborating with other quantum engineers and scientists. You will collaborate with adjacent teams and senior members of the quantum electronics team to contribute to long term strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design of control and measurement systems for next generation quantum computers, from architecture through implementation and deployment.
  • Manage a team of design and test engineers, providing mentorship to engineers, including in industry design practices.
  • Drive projects of significant complexity to completion, leveraging team of engineers.
  • Participate in project roadmapping and resource planning.
  • Support deployment and operations of electronics and Google's fleet of quantum computers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in Field-programmable Gate Array (FPGA) design or similar electrical engineering design disciplines.
  • Experience in analog, digital, or mixed-signal design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing and leading a design team, development of projects, including system deployment in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in multiple Electrical Engineering design disciplines (e.g., FPGA, AMS, or RF at the board and chip level), and specification discovery to system deployment.
  • Knowledge in industry design practices across relevant disciplines (e.g., AMS, RF, FPGA, etc.).

Benefits

  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with matching contributions
  • Paid time off
  • Parental leave
  • Employee stock purchase plan
