About the position

Micron Technology is seeking a Hardware/Firmware Security Engineer to join our team in Boise, Idaho. In this role, you will be responsible for building high-performance controller firmware for both volatile and non-volatile memory systems. Your work will involve evaluating, creating, building, bench testing, debugging, and conducting failure analyses of firmware for new high-performance memory controllers and Solid State Drives (SSD). The goal is to enhance performance while minimizing power consumption, latency, and the complexity of the System on Chip (SoC) for targeted sectors. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineers to address multi-functional product development challenges, prioritize failures, file bug reports, and assist development teams in isolating issues. As a Firmware Engineer, you will also track and resolve security firmware issues or ensure their transfer to subsequent design phases. You will function as an authority in secure product development, assessing and mitigating vulnerabilities in Micron products. Your responsibilities will include reviewing security mechanisms and the security architecture of products to ensure robust protection against potential threats. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying and addressing security vulnerabilities, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of security and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Build high-performance controller firmware for memory systems.
  • Evaluate, create, build, bench test, and debug firmware for new memory controllers and SSDs.
  • Conduct failure analyses of firmware to improve performance and reduce power and latency.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineers to address product development issues.
  • Track and close security firmware issues or ensure their transfer to subsequent design phases.
  • Function as an authority in secure product development.
  • Assess and mitigate vulnerabilities in Micron products.
  • Review security mechanisms and architecture of products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in information assurance/information security.
  • Experience analyzing vulnerabilities, including severity ratings (CVSS and Common Criteria).
  • Practical and theoretical experience in cryptography.
  • Ability to work with multiple teams across a large organization.
  • Understanding of Secure Development Lifecycles.
  • Experience with security standards: NIST, ISO, FIPS.
  • Experience in threat modeling.
  • Experience reviewing design and architecture of security functionality in products.
