About the position

The Hardware Integration Software Engineer role involves working on hardware integration and automation projects, focusing on consumer electronics and lab test equipment. The engineer will be responsible for integrating various hardware components, developing scalable systems for software updates, and automating hardware systems for data collection. Strong programming skills in C++ and Python, along with testing and debugging capabilities, are essential for ensuring proper operation and integration of software and hardware components.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up and maintaining data collection software.
  • Building abstractions for hardware and scaling solutions to various hardware types.
  • Debugging in C++ and Python, understanding different kinds of error analysis, and communicating with Research Engineers and Scientists.
  • Writing software that interfaces with hardware.
  • Designing and executing experiments to validate product quality and investigate hardware/software issues.
  • Designing and commissioning automation procedures for experiments.
  • Performing device calibration with proprietary equipment.
  • Commissioning and operating complex measurement and test equipment.
  • Documenting various processes and techniques with assistance from the core team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as C++ and Python.
  • Experience working with hardware components and interfacing with firmware.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong testing and debugging skills.
  • Requirements gathering skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with real-time data pipelines, such as moving high-resolution images from cameras.
  • Experience interfacing with hardware, such as a Raspberry Pi.
  • Statistical data analysis and visualization.
  • Robot control or mechatronics experience, particularly controlling linear motion stages and robot arms.
  • Knowledge about camera optics and acquisition settings.
  • Experience with VR or AR systems.
