About the position

The Mac Product Design team at Apple is seeking a Product Design Engineer who will leverage creativity, spatial reasoning, and attention to detail to solve design challenges for the next generation of portable and desktop computers. This role involves collaborating with various teams to integrate technology seamlessly into products, ideating concepts, prototyping, testing, and optimizing designs through travel to assembly sites.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with industrial designers, product integrity, hardware, software, and technology groups to refine and execute product designs.
• Develop initial product layouts and generate concepts for prototypes.
• Demonstrate and test prototypes to drive down-selection of designs.
• Partner with external vendors and internal manufacturing teams to optimize designs for function, cosmetics, and manufacturability.
• Perform stress, tolerance, and failure analyses to ensure design meets requirements throughout its lifecycle.
• Travel up to 20% in Asia to support factory builds.

Requirements

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role.
• Strong knowledge of tolerance analysis, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing, and design for assembly/manufacturability.
• Experience designing for high volume manufacturing of injection molded, die cast, sheet metal, and machined parts.
• Proficiency in metrology and simple fixture design.
• Familiarity with computer-aided design and statistical process control.
