About the position

The Mac Product Design team at Apple is seeking a Product Design Engineer who will leverage creativity, spatial reasoning, and attention to detail to solve design challenges for the next generation of portable and desktop computers. This role involves collaborating with various teams to integrate technology into innovative products, from ideation to prototyping and testing, while ensuring designs meet functional and aesthetic requirements throughout their lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with industrial designers, product integrity, hardware, software, and technology groups to refine and execute product designs.
• Develop initial product layouts and generate concepts for new products.
• Prototype, demonstrate, and test designs to drive down-selection.
• Partner with external vendors and internal manufacturing teams to optimize designs for function, cosmetics, and manufacturability.
• Perform stress, tolerance, and failure analyses to ensure design requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle.
• Travel up to 20% in Asia to support factory builds.

Requirements

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role.
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals including solid mechanics, material science, heat transfer, and mechanism design.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
