About the position

As a Hardware Reliability Engineer at Apple, you will play a crucial role in ensuring and enhancing the durability and reliability of Apple's products. You will collaborate with various iOS hardware engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to field returns, by developing and implementing innovative reliability tests, quantifying reliability risks, and advising the executive team on strategies for improvement. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about continuous learning and innovative engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Developing new reliability test procedures and specifications
  • Preparing concise and detailed test plans and analyzing test reports
  • Statistically analyzing data to provide design risk assessments
  • Presenting tests, test results, and risk assessments to cross-functional and leadership teams
  • Researching new technologies to understand unique failure mechanisms
  • Guiding design and interacting with diverse groups to improve product reliability
  • Investigating failures during reliability testing to determine root cause and drive mitigations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in hardware focused engineering or technical field (ME, MSE, ChemE, EE, physics, etc.)
  • 3-5+ years in reliability or relevant engineering experience
  • Experience performing product characterization including mechanical stress tests, shock/drop/vibration testing, environmental testing, etc.
  • Application of FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis)
  • Familiar with Failure Analysis techniques (Optical Microscopy, X-ray/CT, Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, etc.)
  • Collaborative attitude and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to make clear and concise slides and presentations
  • Strong attention to detail and curiosity about how technologies work
  • Proficiency in iWork and Microsoft Office, including Keynote, Powerpoint, email, Calendar, WebEx, etc.
  • Ability to travel internationally without restrictions

Nice-to-haves

  • MS or PhD degree in hardware focused engineering or technical field (ME, MSE, ChemE, EE, physics, etc.)
  • Statistical experience such as Weibull, JMP, or familiarity with accelerated test models
  • Understanding of Design of Experiments
  • Imaginative approach to Failure Modes and Effects Analysis
