About the position

As a System Reliability Engineer at Apple, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the durability and reliability of our products. You will collaborate with diverse hardware teams to identify high-risk failure modes early in the design process and develop innovative reliability tests. Your work will involve leading cross-functional teams, creating detailed test plans, and driving continuous product improvements based on your evaluations and recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Identify high-risk failure modes early in the design process.
  • Work closely with design engineering teams to reduce risks.
  • Create new reliability tests based on the physics of failure and anticipated user behavior.
  • Develop and deliver critical test equipment and specifications.
  • Collaborate with vendors to meet testing deadlines.
  • Support failure analysis efforts and provide design recommendations based on test data analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (mechanical engineering, materials engineering, electrical engineering, physics or related fields).
  • 0-4 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with Failure Analysis techniques (Optical Microscopy, X-ray/CT, Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy).
  • Collaborative attitude and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to create clear and concise presentations using tools like Keynote and Excel.
  • Proficiency in basic productivity applications (email, web browser, calendar, WebEx/Zoom, spreadsheet, Keynote/PPT).
  • Ability to travel internationally without restriction.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • Statistical experience such as Weibull, JMP, or familiarity with accelerated test models.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Sharp attention to detail.
  • Confidence in presenting test results and risk assessments to cross-functional and leadership teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capability to perform tests and troubleshoot issues independently.
  • Openness to take on new tasks.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude.
