About the position

Wing is seeking a Hardware Reliability Engineer to join its Hardware Reliability team in Palo Alto, CA. This role is crucial for enabling new technologies during their early development stages. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in engineering principles, experience with hardware failure modes in challenging environments, and the ability to analyze complex data to derive straightforward solutions. The position involves collaboration with product management and design engineering teams to establish standards, specify and execute tests, and conduct failure analysis, ensuring the adoption of technical recommendations through effective communication.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute design verification test plans for electronic and mechatronic flight hardware.
  • Collaborate with development teams to enhance hardware reliability based on experience, standards, best practices, test data, and analysis.
  • Analyze lab test data and field data to calculate failure rates and recommend design improvements.
  • Write or adapt computer scripts to perform tests and analyze data.
  • Perform root cause analysis and failure analysis.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in hardware reliability, design, or failure analysis.
  • Familiarity with consumer, automotive, and/or aerospace reliability test standards and methods.
  • Experience working with external testing labs to define and complete testing.
  • Experience partnering with engineering and manufacturing teams to identify issues, troubleshoot, and solve problems.
  • Hands-on experience assembling, disassembling, inspecting, and modifying hardware.
  • Working knowledge of a programming language (preferably Python) with the ability to write and modify scripts.
  • Ability to create and update reliability models.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain test plans, results, and recommendations to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Organizational skills to plan and ensure follow-through on complex test plans.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS/PhD degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Familiarity with SQL and working with large data sets.
  • Experience with statistics and relevant reliability data analysis packages (e.g. Weibull++, JMP, R, MATLAB).
  • Proven experience in debug, troubleshooting, and failure analysis investigation.
  • Applied knowledge in avionics, motors, actuators, etc.
