About the position

The Amazon Robotics team is seeking a Robotics Hardware Engineer to design, build, and test innovative robotic systems and modules. This role involves working with an interdisciplinary team to create and deploy mechatronic designs, ensuring smooth production transitions and maintaining existing product designs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and robotics, with a focus on analytical problem-solving and hands-on experience in building complex systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and document new robotic mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to create, test, and deploy new mechatronic designs.
  • Improve and maintain existing product designs.
  • Write requirements and functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Work with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality organizations, and vendors to ensure smooth production transitions of design changes.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment.
  • Established background in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems with a focus on Actuator and Sensor Evaluation.
  • Experience in systems architecture, design, and system integration of mechatronic devices.
  • SolidWorks or similar CAD experience with best practices for part design and advanced assemblies.
  • Strong hands-on experience with the ability to craft simple proof-of-concept models.
  • Thorough understanding of principles, theories, and concepts in mechanical engineering.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work well with teams of hardware and software engineers.
  • Ability to effectively communicate concepts and proposals.
  • Desire and energy to work in a fast-paced agile environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 2+ years designing and debugging tooled components.
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume.
  • Proficiency with Agile Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software and ECOs.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping equipment (CNC, 3D printing, waterjet, laser cutter).
  • Significant experience with the hardware product development process.
