About the position

GovCIO is currently seeking a highly skilled Hardware/Storage Administrator/Systems Engineer to join our Courts proposal team in San Antonio, TX. This position is critical to our operations, focusing on the integration and management of hardware and storage systems. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of software systems development, systems integration, and network engineering, and will be responsible for providing technical assistance and advice on complex activities such as installation, configuration, repair, and maintenance of hardware and storage systems. In this role, you will act independently under general direction, providing Tier 3 support for all servers, whether physical or virtual. You will be tasked with capacity planning, installation, configuration, and problem resolution, ensuring that all systems operate efficiently. Your responsibilities will also include formulating and defining specifications, developing and modifying complex systems, and applying analytical techniques to gather information from users and resolve technical problems. You will work closely with programmers and engineers, preparing recommendations for system improvements and coordinating work to ensure project milestones are met. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to make decisions on the techniques and approaches to be used in various situations. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of our IT services, making a significant difference in how government agencies operate and serve citizens.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and advice on complex activities such as installation, configuration, repair, and maintenance of hardware and storage systems.
  • Perform capacity planning, installation, configuration, problem resolution, and Tier 3 support of all servers, hosts, and supporting applications.
  • Assist in agent configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Formulate and define specifications, develop, modify, and maintain complex systems and subsystems using vendor engineering releases and utilities.
  • Apply analytical techniques to gather information from users, define work problems, design technology solutions, and develop procedures to resolve problems.
  • Develop complete specifications to enable computer programmers to prepare required programs.
  • Analyze methods of approach and review task proposal requirements.
  • Gather information, analyze data, prepare project synopses, compare alternatives, prepare specifications, and resolve processing problems.
  • Coordinate work with programmers and engineers and orient users to new systems.
  • Prepare recommendations for system improvement for management and user consideration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 2-5 years of relevant experience or commensurate experience.
  • Full knowledge of the job and moderate understanding of its general aspects and applications.
  • Experience in providing solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Server support experience, including blades and enclosures (preferred platform: HP).
  • SAN switch experience and enterprise storage system experience (Hitachi VSP required, HP 3PAR a plus).
  • VMware system administration experience (preferred ESXi 5.X).
  • OS System Administration skills in both Red Hat Linux and Windows.
  • Network Administration experience related to firewalls, LAN, DNS, etc.
  • Scripting experience (bash, Powershell, korn).
  • Backup administrator experience in a SAN environment (preferred application: NetBackup).
  • Experience with Domino administration.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain Public Trust clearance.
