About the position

The Hardware System Validation Lead at Google is responsible for leading the development and execution of validation test plans for innovative hardware systems, particularly for Project Starline. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the performance, efficiency, and reliability of hardware products. The position emphasizes technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and driving improvements in product design through data analysis and validation strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive validation test plans for Project Starline systems, focusing on functional performance, thermal/power efficiency, and long-term reliability.
  • Design and implement scalable validation test infrastructure, including hardware fixtures, software frameworks, and automation tools to ensure seamless testing processes.
  • Analyze validation data to identify root causes of issues, and propose actionable improvements for product design and performance optimization.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to review test plans, analyze data, and enhance validation strategies.
  • Mentor and guide system validation engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence across the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in a technical environment related to hardware systems, or 5 years of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role, leading hardware validation efforts.
  • Experience in design validation for hardware systems, including developing and executing test plans.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
  • 10 years of experience with consumer product development and validation.
  • Experience validating imaging related products incorporating technologies (e.g., spanning cameras, optics, lighting, displays, etc).
  • Experience in building cross-functional relationships with teams spanning Electrical Engineering, Product Design, Technical Engineering, Silicon, Software and external vendors to drive project execution.
  • Understanding of communication interfaces (e.g., I2C, USB, SPI, PCIe, MIPI) and related test strategies.
