About the position

The Hardware Systems Engineer role at Apple involves building innovative prototype hardware systems within the Biophotonics EE team. This position emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and engineering excellence, requiring the engineer to tackle new challenges and convert high-level feature requests into practical designs. The role is integral to developing custom hardware that meets high performance and functional objectives.

Responsibilities

• Build proof-of-concept and prototype hardware and design EE solutions such as circuits, tests, or calibration procedures to meet functional and performance objectives
• Perform schematic capture, review layout, and create and execute bring-up and validation plans for complex, mixed-signal PCBs
• Collaborate within EE and with the cross-functional team to perform failure analysis and investigate root-cause for issues in optoelectronic systems
• Develop automation for validation, testing, and characterization of PCBs

Requirements

• BS in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Experience using standard lab equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, multimeters)
• Experience designing or simulating circuits such as for PCBs or ICs

Nice-to-haves

• 3+ years of industry experience in Electrical Engineering
• Experience with schematic capture tools, such as Eagle, Altium, or Cadence and PCB layout on complex multi-layer boards
• Experience with bringup and testing of PCBs with analog sensors, ADCs, FPGAs
• Proficiency in rapid prototyping of circuits, debugging noise pickup, and experience with challenging designs and debugs
• Experience with automating data collection, scripting using Python or MATLAB, and circuit simulation using LTspice, Spectre or similar
• Strong Electrical Engineering background with good understanding of fundamentals of analog and mixed signal design, digital design, communication interfaces
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work well in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment
