About the position

The 3D Printing Systems Engineer at Formlabs is responsible for designing and delivering key subsystems and components for professional 3D printers. This role involves driving the entire product development cycle, from early research and development to ongoing engineering for shipped products. The engineer will collaborate with design teams to solve cross-disciplinary challenges and ensure high-quality product delivery.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver key subsystem or subsystem components, including laser, optics, high powered LEDs, LCDs, thermal systems, and air handling systems.
• Analyze and debug hardware to the component level.
• Conceptualize, select, and present technical solutions for complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Support testing and troubleshooting of systems, modules, and sub-assemblies, collaborating with program engineering personnel as needed.
• Generate and implement improvements in product and test design to reduce costs, increase yield, and improve throughput.
• Interface with multiple engineering disciplines and equipment suppliers.
• Support requirements definition and develop requirement specifications.

Requirements

• Experience with the design, build, integration, and/or testing of complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Strong root cause analysis skills.
• Ability to research and apply engineering principles and theories to solve complex problems.
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, optical, and mechanical technical drawings.
