About the position

The Hardware Systems Engineer at Meta Reality Labs plays a crucial role in the hardware systems engineering team, focusing on the integration of complex sub-systems and product architectures for consumer mixed reality systems. This position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical requirements, ensuring that hardware systems meet specified requirements through validation and verification activities. The engineer will also engage in effective communication with various stakeholders to align project goals and requirements, addressing engineering challenges and driving the incubation of new technologies from concept to mass production.

Responsibilities

  • Drive development of system requirements for new virtual (VR) and mixed reality (MR) experiences.
  • Manage data-driven methods for developing requirements and verification deliverables.
  • Develop processes for proper documentation throughout product development stages.
  • Ensure Systems Engineering representation in design reviews and address subsystem needs.
  • Coordinate technical discussions to resolve requirement issues.
  • Collaborate on prototyping and product exploration aligned with strategic questions.
  • Create hardware system metrics, KPIs, standards, and tools.
  • Develop and execute verification and validation strategies for hardware systems.
  • Design and implement testing plans and protocols for system performance validation.
  • Integrate testing and validation activities into the overall product development process.

Requirements

  • Engineering background in electrical, mechanical, optics, semiconductors, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of product experience in electrical, mechanical, or optical engineering.
  • Proven experience in driving architecture convergence on complex consumer electronics products.
  • Experience integrating technologies such as displays, optics, silicon, sensors, and thermal systems.
  • Proven systems skills and experience in architectural tradeoffs.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, automotive, or medical.
  • Familiarity with mixed reality hardware production and development processes.
  • Working knowledge across multiple areas including interfaces, optical, sensors, modules, ISP and algorithm fundamentals, CV/ML, network impacts on latency, throughput, and jitter.
  • Experience with SoC evaluation, optical systems, sensors, CV algorithms, software.
