About the position

The Apple Watch Hardware Product Group is seeking an enthusiastic electrical engineer to join the Apple Watch HW Engineering Team. This design engineering position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to innovate and enhance the technology used in mobile device products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in consumer electronics, particularly in designing high-volume, low-power, and high-quality products. In this role, you will engage with various teams to understand system requirements and trade-offs, developing creative solutions to complex technical challenges. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include schematic capture, PCB layout design, prototype bring-up and debugging, functional verification, signal characterization, hardware bug tracking, and managing relationships with suppliers and manufacturing partners. This position is critical in ensuring that the Apple Watch meets the high standards of quality and performance expected by our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with cross-functional teams to understand system requirements and trade-offs.
  • Develop creative solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Perform schematic capture and PCB layout design.
  • Conduct prototype bring-up and debugging activities.
  • Carry out functional verification and signal characterization.
  • Track hardware bugs and manage supplier/manufacturing partner relationships.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering (EE).
  • Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up and debugging, functional verification, or manufacturing support.
  • Experience in system integration, processor selection, and various communication protocols (USB, SPI, I2C, UART).
  • Knowledge in analog integration, audio design and measurement, power electronics design, sensor design and integration, and low power design.
  • Broad experience with low power low noise designs is preferred.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Cadence Concept & Allegro.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
