About the position

The Hardware Systems Performance Engineer (Connectivity/RF) at Rivian plays a crucial role in the Hardware Systems Architecture team, focusing on characterizing the performance of low-voltage electrical systems in Rivian vehicles. This position aims to drive hardware architecture decision-making during early development stages and validate designs in later stages. The role requires a blend of hardware architecture knowledge and systems software familiarity to identify and quantify system-level performance metrics, anticipate design risks, and validate system performance against requirements across various LVE subsystems.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate collaboration between hardware architecture, hardware design, and software application teams to build comprehensive plans that surface key performance metrics.
  • Lead and support design, integration, and automation efforts related to characterization and validation activities on various hardware testing configurations.
  • Orchestrate the end-to-end development of systems and automation for performance characterization, including integration of hardware and software.
  • Execute characterization plans, leverage analytical methods, and present clear validation metrics and reports to support data-driven architectural decisions.
  • Support the development of hardware and software for automated robotic characterization of RF performance of wireless technologies.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with hands-on experience in relevant practical settings.
  • Familiarity with wireless technologies like BT, BLE, LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi, and/or UWB, and their performance evaluation.
  • Hands-on coding experience related to embedded platform bring-up, system software/applications development, or system-level hardware performance instrumentation.
  • Some familiarity with hardware and software associated with robotic automation for spatial data capture.
  • Talent for developing software for modeling, data acquisition, mining, analysis, and presentation using tools like Python or MatLab.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with high-speed automotive peripheral interfaces and networks such as PCIe, GMSL, Ethernet, A2B, and CAN-FD.
  • Understanding of embedded computing platforms and methods for quantifying performance of processors and memory systems.
  • Grasp of power-related aspects of distributed embedded architectures, focusing on efficient low-power states.
  • Conversant with software platforms for embedded computing architectures typical in automotive applications.

Benefits

  • Robust medical/Rx, dental, and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage effective on the first day of employment.
