About the position

The Hardware Systems Performance Engineer will work within the Hardware Systems Architecture team at Rivian to characterize the performance of low-voltage electrical systems in vehicles. This role is crucial for driving hardware architecture decisions during early development stages and validating designs in later stages. The engineer will focus on various performance dimensions of LVE subsystems, including telematics and wireless connectivity, and will require a blend of hardware architecture knowledge and systems software familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate collaboration between hardware architecture, hardware design, and software application teams to develop comprehensive performance plans.
  • Lead and support design, integration, and automation efforts for characterization and validation activities on hardware testing configurations.
  • Orchestrate the end-to-end development of systems and automation for performance characterization, including integration of hardware and software.
  • Execute characterization plans and present validation metrics and reports to support data-driven architectural decisions.
  • Support the development of hardware and software for automated robotic characterization of RF performance.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with hands-on experience in relevant practical settings.
  • Familiarity with wireless technologies like BT, BLE, LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi, and/or UWB, and their performance evaluation.
  • Hands-on coding experience related to embedded platform bring-up, system software development, or system-level hardware performance instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with robotic automation for spatial data capture, including optical, inertial, and GPS-based sensors.
  • Ability to develop software for modeling, data acquisition, mining, analysis, and presentation using tools like Python or MatLab.
  • Curiosity to understand system workings and translate them into measurable metrics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with high-speed automotive peripheral interfaces and networks such as PCIe, GMSL, Ethernet, and CAN-FD.
  • Understanding of embedded computing platforms and methods for quantifying performance of processors and memory systems.
  • Knowledge of power-related aspects of distributed embedded architectures.
  • Conversant with software platforms for embedded computing architectures typical in automotive applications.

Benefits

  • Robust medical/Rx, dental, and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage effective on the first day of employment.
