About the position

The Hardware Systems Performance Engineer role at Rivian focuses on characterizing the performance of low-voltage electrical systems in vehicles. This position is integral to the Hardware Systems Architecture team, driving hardware architecture decisions during early development stages and validating designs in later stages. The role requires a blend of hardware architecture knowledge and systems software familiarity to identify performance metrics, anticipate design risks, and validate system performance across various subsystems including infotainment and connectivity.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate collaboration between hardware architecture, hardware design, and software application teams to surface key performance metrics and validate system performance.
  • Lead and support design, integration, and automation efforts related to characterization and validation activities on various hardware testing configurations.
  • Orchestrate the end-to-end development of systems and automation for performance characterization, including integration of hardware and software.
  • Execute characterization plans, leverage analytical methods, and present validation metrics and reports to support architectural decisions.
  • Contribute to mock-ups or prototypes to study next-gen technologies and establish proofs-of-concept.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with hands-on experience in relevant practical settings.
  • Understanding of embedded computing platforms and methods for quantifying performance of processors, memory/storage systems, and peripheral interfaces.
  • Knowledge of power-related aspects of distributed embedded architectures, focusing on efficient low-power states.
  • Familiarity with high-speed automotive peripheral interfaces and networks such as PCIe, GMSL, Ethernet, and CAN-FD.
  • Hands-on coding experience related to embedded platform bring-up, system software development, or performance instrumentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing and/or validating embedded systems optimized for distributed architecture settings.
  • Conversant with wireless technologies like BLE, LTE, 5G, and their performance evaluation.
  • Familiarity with software platforms for embedded computing architectures typical in automotive applications.
  • Some familiarity with camera sensors and downstream processing pipelines.

Benefits

  • Robust medical/Rx, dental, and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage effective on the first day of employment.
