About the position

The Debug Project at Verily is focused on enhancing mosquito production systems, release, and monitoring, which includes support for field and partner sites. To facilitate this initiative, we are seeking an Electro-Mechanical Technician with a strong background in automated systems, precision robotics, and manufacturing. As part of a dynamic team comprising mosquito biologists, software engineers, and automation experts, the technician will play a crucial role in developing innovative solutions to mitigate the impact of mosquito-borne diseases. In this role, the Electro-Mechanical Technician will be responsible for building and maintaining quality systems for all processes and products. This includes the assembly, deployment, and maintenance of Debug technology across various global release programs, ensuring that products are effective, efficient, and consistently of high quality at all sites. The technician will oversee the build-out and maintenance of large-scale automated mass rearing facilities, as well as the industrial automation equipment operating within these facilities. The work will encompass everything from early prototypes to final production builds, making it essential for the technician to have a comprehensive understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, particularly in diagnosing and troubleshooting automated robotic systems that involve complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and fluidic components. The technician will also be expected to perform maintenance on robots, independently resolving issues as they arise and taking steps to prevent future failures. Additionally, the technician will assist project management with renovations of manufacturing spaces, ensuring that technical requirements for power, air, and water distribution are met. This role will involve a minimum of 15% travel for the purpose of repairing, retrofitting, or deploying systems globally.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, diagnose, and troubleshoot automated robotic systems with complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and fluidic components.
  • Perform robot maintenance, working independently to solve problems when mechanical and electrical failures happen, and proactively mitigate future risk.
  • Follow diagnostic procedures and advise R&D team on improvements.
  • Assist project management for manufacturing space renovations, understanding technical requirements for power, air and water distribution.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience working in relevant electro-mechanical fields (electrician, construction, field service, automotive technology, HVAC) or equivalent degree.
  • Experience in assembly, maintenance, inventory, operating equipment, and common power tools.
  • Experience with building, wiring, and troubleshooting complex electronic control systems.
  • Computer and controller operation skills, able to operate an automation dashboard and communicate robot failures clearly to a non-technical audience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with high and low power electrical systems including power, safety, cable routing, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with shipment and logistics of large scale robotic components.
  • Experience with computer aided design (CAD) programs, preferably Solidworks, and ability to generate documentation (schematics, BOMS, assembly instructions, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides).
  • Great communication skills and the ability to work well on a fast-paced interdisciplinary team.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $90,000 - $128,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
