About the position

The Test Engineer position within the New Product Verification Department at Intuitive focuses on ensuring the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of new medical products, particularly in robotic-assisted surgery. The role involves developing and executing test protocols, collaborating with design and clinical teams, and contributing to the quality assurance of innovative medical devices. The Test Engineer will also design test fixtures and support the development of new testing methods, all while adhering to high ethical standards and company procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-level verification and validation test plans for various projects.
  • Generate and take ownership of test protocols for Design Verification and Life/Reliability tests.
  • Collaborate with Design and Clinical teams to develop necessary test methods.
  • Execute test protocols for clinically-based surgical simulation and automated testing.
  • Identify and present problems during testing, escalating issues to engineering teams as needed.
  • Collaborate on failure investigation and root cause analysis with engineering teams.
  • Document test results and observations in comprehensive test reports.
  • Design test fixtures and aids for testing processes.
  • Work with engineers to develop concepts for fixture design.
  • Train test technicians on test methods and procedures.
  • Ensure timely completion of department projects and communicate constraints to management.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or similar degree.
  • Minimum 2+ years work experience in an engineering organization or research team environment.
  • Familiarity with equipment for performance measurements on electro-mechanical systems.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems, test equipment, and test practices is desirable.
  • Experience using tools and measuring equipment (Force Gauge, Calipers, Instron, Oscilloscopes, etc.).
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical engineering calculations for equipment design.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, Arduino is a plus.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software is highly preferred.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to learn complex products and processes.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, multitasking effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Familiarity with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
