About the position

At Motorola Solutions, we are dedicated to enhancing safety and security through innovative technology. As a Hardware Test Engineer II, you will play a crucial role in our Product Development & Operations Group, which focuses on designing and manufacturing IoT-based products for the safety and security industry. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that our products meet high-quality standards and compliance requirements in a timely manner. You will be involved in testing and compliance efforts for our products, including the HALO and SentryERS systems, and will contribute to the development of new products in our portfolio. In this position, you will design, execute, and document testing activities for hardware and software/firmware associated with electronic systems and components. You will troubleshoot nonconforming items and provide corrective actions and mistake-proofing plans. Additionally, you will lead compliance efforts, ensuring that all current and new products meet necessary compliance requirements such as UL, FCC, RoHS, and ISO. Your role will also involve compiling compliance submittals, interfacing with testing labs and agencies, and maintaining certification documentation. You will be responsible for creating and documenting test procedures, designing and verifying test fixtures, evaluating components and products, and providing guidance on electronics design to ensure compliance with certification requirements. Your work will require you to stay updated on regulatory advancements and communicate effectively with the Director of Engineering and Project Management department to implement company strategies. You will also maintain accurate records and prepare technical reports documenting all aspects of testing and regulatory projects. Continuous learning and professional development will be encouraged through attendance at conferences, workshops, and training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute testing activities for hardware and software/firmware for electronic systems and components.
  • Troubleshoot nonconforming items and provide corrective actions and mistake-proofing plans.
  • Lead compliance efforts for products, ensuring they meet UL, FCC, RoHS, and ISO requirements.
  • Compile compliance submittals and maintain certification documentation.
  • Create and document test procedures for product hardware and software/firmware testing.
  • Design, assemble, and verify test fixtures used for production and product verification.
  • Evaluate components for suitability through thorough testing and provide implementation guidelines.
  • Evaluate complementary and competitive products through thorough testing.
  • Review and provide guidance on electronics design to ensure compliance with certification requirements.
  • Identify and resolve electronics issues and malfunctions in existing systems, performing regular maintenance tasks.
  • Plan testing and compliance projects, defining scope, setting timelines, and managing resources.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and advances in electronics regulations.
  • Communicate with the Director of Engineering and Project Management department to implement company strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare technical reports, and document all aspects of testing and regulatory projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics engineering or a similar field.
  • 4+ years of experience in testing and regulatory compliance, preferably in industrial or medical fields.
  • Strong experience with OpAmp circuits, filters, power supplies, buck & boost converters, ADC & DAC applications, schematic capture, I2C, SPI, & UART, audio CODECs, amplifiers, microphones, and speakers.
  • Experience with isolated input/output, Ethernet, USB2 & USB3, IoT, and power-sensitive products.
  • Familiarity with basic sensors, including Hall effect, temperature, and humidity sensors.
  • Knowledge of PC Board Engineering, including ground planes, high frequency, and high currents.
  • Experience with passive component selection and electronics troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of UL compliance for safety, emissions, lasers, etc.
  • Familiarity with FCC regulations and compliance requirements, as well as RoHS, WEEE, and Prop65 regulation requirements.
