About the position

As a System Hardware Validation Engineer at Apple, you will play a crucial role in the hardware validation team, which is part of the system hardware development organization. This team is responsible for bringing innovative Mac hardware products to users, and your contributions will be vital in ensuring that these products meet the high standards that Apple is known for. The primary focus of this position is on testing, identifying, and resolving system-level hardware design issues. You will be working with the latest hardware and software, engaging in hands-on test execution, and collaborating closely with multi-functional teams including system hardware, silicon, and software design teams. Your responsibilities will include generating and performing focused and pseudo-random test cases based on coverage analysis, maintaining the physical test environment, and debugging failures in collaboration with software, firmware, system hardware, and silicon teams. You will also be tasked with tracking, analyzing, and reporting critical test data, as well as crafting software checks to compare observed behavior against expected behavior derived from system specifications. Additionally, you will develop and optimize test frameworks and tools to create a controlled validation environment that supports large-scale validation efforts. This role requires a proactive approach to designing and defining new validation strategies and detailed test plans, ensuring that the hardware experience delivered to customers is best-in-class.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and perform focused and pseudo-random test cases of various configurations based on coverage analysis.
  • Maintain the physical test environment and test hardware setup used in validation testing.
  • Debug failures multi-functionally with Software/Firmware, System Hardware, and Silicon teams.
  • Track, analyze, and report critical test data.
  • Craft software checks to compare observed behavior against expected behavior derived from system specifications.
  • Develop and optimize test framework and tools to create a controlled validation environment to support large scale validation.
  • Design and define new validation strategies as well as detailed test plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • At least 2 years of experience with system hardware or embedded hardware testing.
  • Experience in post-silicon validations.
  • Test automation experience and large scale testing.
  • Familiarity with system power management and testing.
  • Familiarity with computer architecture and IO protocols (USB, I2C, PCIe).
