The position acts as a program consultant for the statewide Ohio Violence and Injury Prevention Section (OVIPS). The consultant coordinates and evaluates programs, policies, and procedures related to community harm reduction programs, focusing on promoting and implementing evidence-based strategies to reduce harms and infectious diseases associated with illicit drug use. The role includes serving as a technical resource for community harm reduction programs, sharing best practices, and promoting comprehensive services. Additionally, the consultant plans and develops monthly information-sharing calls, webinars, organizes meetings, and coordinates the involvement of state and community partner groups. Public relations campaigns are developed to promote priority injury issues, and the consultant is responsible for furnishing information and explaining programs to the public, legislators, and news media. The role also involves making speeches and presentations, maintaining injury-related web pages, and assisting the supervisor in responding to requests from professionals, media, government officials, and the public. The consultant aids in planning and coordinating the annual statewide Injury Symposium, develops health information and education activities, assesses training needs of subgrantees, prepares grant applications, and develops processes to track program initiatives, projects, and grants/contracts. The consultant identifies emerging issues related to harm reduction by compiling information from literature searches, networking, and participating in workshops and conferences related to best practices in injury prevention, education, and program resources.
