About the position

The Harvest and Sales Manager at Blue House Farm is responsible for overseeing the sales operations and managing the field harvest and pack-out processes. This role involves direct communication with the farm owner and requires effective management of crew leaders and field staff to ensure efficient harvesting and quality control of produce. The position combines administrative tasks with hands-on work in the field, making it ideal for someone passionate about agriculture and sales.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct weekly field walks to assess crops and determine harvest timing, quantity, and quality.
  • Create harvest lists for farmers markets and wholesale orders.
  • Communicate harvest lists to field crew leaders.
  • Assist with washing, sorting, and packing as needed.
  • Prepare wholesale availability lists for retailers, restaurants, and distributors.
  • Maintain inventory of packing supplies.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of cooler and storage spaces.
  • Monitor product quality and ensure proper packaging and labeling.
  • Oversee completion of cleaning logs and adherence to food safety procedures.
  • Input payments from farmers market and sales accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with various accounts and develop new sales channels.
  • Train farmers market staff on crop information.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to strategic and operational decisions.

Requirements

  • Experience on a production farm is desired.
  • Conversational Spanish language skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Excel and basic computer skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with various vegetables.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn harvest, wash, pack, and food safety procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to a minimum of two years in the position.
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, eager to learn, and possess excellent people skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as heavy lifting (over 50 lbs), repetitive grasping, standing, bending, and walking.
