About the position

This position is responsible for the overall coordination, management, and execution of the HAZMAT program in accordance with the principles, standards, and techniques of HAZMAT management. The HAZMAT program must comply with all applicable federal, Department of Defense (DoD), state, and local regulations regarding environmental protection. The incumbent will ensure that all operations related to hazardous materials are conducted safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements, thereby minimizing risks to personnel and the environment. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of hazardous materials management, including the processes of receiving, storage, distribution, handling, and disposal of various materials. The incumbent will be expected to plan, organize, direct, operate, and evaluate the HAZMAT program for the entire command. This includes developing and implementing policies and procedures that align with regulatory standards and best practices in hazardous materials management. Additionally, the position involves training and educating staff on HAZMAT protocols and ensuring that all personnel are aware of their responsibilities regarding hazardous materials. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records and documentation related to hazardous materials and waste management, as well as conducting regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the HAZMAT program in compliance with federal, DoD, state, and local regulations.
  • Plan, organize, direct, operate, and evaluate the HAZMAT program for the entire command.
  • Ensure safe receiving, storage, distribution, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for hazardous materials management.
  • Train and educate staff on HAZMAT protocols and responsibilities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to hazardous materials and waste management.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Hazardous Substance Incident Response Management (HSIRM) training.
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the management, administration, or operation of a hazardous materials/waste program within the last four (4) years.
  • Experience must include receiving, storage, distribution, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • At least one (1) year of experience must include planning, organizing, directing, operating, and evaluating a HAZMAT program for an entire command.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal, DoD, state, and local regulations regarding environmental protection.
