About the position

The Hazardous Waste Technician I at Moffitt Cancer Center is responsible for the safe removal and transportation of various waste streams, including medical and hazardous waste, to designated collection areas. This role supports the Environmental Services department in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and staff, ensuring compliance with safety and infection control standards.

Responsibilities

  • Safely remove and transport infectious/non-infectious waste including medical, hazardous, municipal, recycling, and linen from the facility to specified collection areas.
  • Follow an appropriate schedule to ensure timeliness of waste and soiled linen removal throughout the facility.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the loading dock, trash compactor area, and trash containers.
  • Move furniture and other items from patient care hallways to maintain proper egress.
  • Setup and breakdown of tables and chairs for meetings and events.
  • Properly clean and disinfect all types of areas including clinical inpatient/outpatient, support/common areas, offices, labs, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, corridors, and external grounds.
  • Handle and dispose of medical waste and sharps observing all required precautions, including properly tying and labeling bags.
  • Use proper chemicals, tools, and equipment for each situation.
  • Clean spills containing blood or other potentially infectious material using established infection control, safety, and departmental procedures.
  • Occasionally may have to travel to off-site locations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months experience in healthcare, Environmental Services, customer service, or hospitality.
  • Ability to follow basic oral/written instructions in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a healthcare environmental services training from MacDonald Training Center may also be considered in lieu of the six (6) months of experience.
