The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability. This role involves reviewing and approving benefit enrollments and changes, assisting with new-hire orientations and onboarding as it relates to benefits, and performing quality checks of benefits-related data. The specialist will support the HR Service Center team, Benefits team, and employees with questions regarding benefits eligibility, ACA administration, and respond to inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, enrollments, status changes, and disability. Additionally, the benefits specialist will analyze and process error files for various vendor files, manage vendor invoices, and process benefit transactions in the HRIS/payroll system for bi-weekly payroll processing. The role also includes assisting with the open enrollment process and the administration of voluntary benefits. This position requires a commitment to confidentiality and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and approves benefit enrollments and changes.
  • Assists with new-hire orientations and onboarding related to benefits.
  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
  • Supports the HR Service Center team and employees with benefits inquiries.
  • Assists with ACA administration.
  • Responds to retirement plan inquiries from managers and employees.
  • Analyzes and processes error files for vendor files between HRIS and Vendor.
  • Processes vendor invoices.
  • Processes benefit transactions in HRIS/payroll system for bi-weekly payroll processing.
  • Assists with the open enrollment process.
  • Assists with administration of voluntary benefits.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in HR or related field or equivalent.
  • With a Bachelor's degree, no experience required.
  • With an Associate's degree, requires two (2) years of experience in HR and/or benefits administration.
  • With a high school diploma, requires six (6) years of experience in HR and/or benefits administration.
  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, with a focus on Excel.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and benefit enrollment platforms.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and decision making skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member.
