About the position

The Process Engineer at Samtec, Inc. is responsible for evaluating and optimizing manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and sustainability. This role focuses on maintaining reliable manufacturing systems while implementing best practices to reduce costs and improve production rates. The Process Engineer will lead experiments, develop manufacturing standards, and provide technical guidance to improve the assembly process.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute experiments to identify key process variables using DOE methodologies or other analytical methods.
  • Develop standard manufacturing best practices, parameters, process windows, and work instructions to improve the assembly process.
  • Utilize Six Sigma DMAIC process to determine root causes and solutions to process challenges.
  • Conduct process capability studies using statistical methods to ensure processes meet key requirements.
  • Establish process criteria for cable assembly design and readiness for full volume production.
  • Provide guidance and support to engineering and operations teams to enhance the assembly process.
  • Collect and interpret data from technical and operating staff involved in the process.
  • Direct and track yield investigations from discovery to root cause analysis.
  • Report yield results to cross-functional teams with varying knowledge bases.
  • Develop tools and methods to ensure higher yields in the manufacturing process.
  • Perform engineering calculations applying principles of physics and mathematics for process or equipment design.
  • Provide technical inputs for incident investigations, documenting problems, root causes, and corrective actions.
  • Research and develop new manufacturing methods to advance the assembly process long-term.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Process Engineering, development, and manufacturing of complex assemblies.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a creative mindset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with cross-functional groups.
  • Experience in data analysis, with Minitab and/or JMP being ideal.
  • Familiarity with engineering design software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six Sigma or Problem Solving background is highly desirable.
  • IPC Certification is desired.
