About the position

As a Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and efficient checkout experience for our customers. This position requires a proactive approach to customer service, where you will assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers, ensuring they receive the help they need. You will be responsible for monitoring the self-checkout area, engaging with customers, and recommending products and services to enhance their shopping experience. Your ability to multitask and move throughout the checkout area will be essential as you stand, walk, reach, bend, lift, and move products to complete transactions accurately. In addition to customer service, you will be expected to provide SMART customer service by adhering to Lowe's policies and procedures. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and demonstrating products, and providing knowledgeable responses to inquiries. You will also coach and develop associates, providing feedback and training on departmental duties and sales opportunities. Your role will involve using a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, ensuring compliance with company guidelines. Safety and cleanliness are paramount in this role. You will monitor the cash drawers, assist with security measures, and ensure compliance with housekeeping standards. You will also be responsible for operating store equipment as needed and maintaining a safe work environment. This position requires a commitment to customer satisfaction and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Use a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds according to company guidelines.
  • Coach, develop, and train associates in departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts by confirming functionality and stocking supplies.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers who trigger alarms.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management and/or Asset Protection.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer and retail technology.
  • Supervisory experience in any field, including directing, delegating, evaluating, training, and coaching employees.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • Less than a year of retail experience detecting common signs of shoplifting.
