About the position

The Head Baseball Coach at Gordon College is responsible for leading and developing student-athletes in a competitive baseball program. This role emphasizes the holistic well-being of student-athletes, focusing on their spiritual growth, sport-specific skills, teamwork, and safety. The coach will work under the supervision of the Director of Athletics and will play a key role in recruitment, retention, and compliance with NCAA regulations, while also contributing to the overall growth of the college and its athletics department.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the instruction and development of student-athletes, including sport-specific technique, strategic play, safety, and key aspects of their position.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of the athletics department and Gordon College, including service and mission opportunities.
  • Lead the recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes who embrace the mission of Gordon College and the Athletics Department.
  • Attend department staff meetings and ensure compliance with College, CNE, and NCAA rules, while supporting departmental initiatives.
  • Monitor academic performance of student-athletes and collaborate in comprehensive student support.
  • Supervise game management for other sports during the out-of-season schedule.
  • Determine fiscal requirements and budgetary recommendations for the baseball program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the sports supervisor or Director of Athletics.
  • Engage with the Gordon College community and participate in campus meetings and functions.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience playing and/or coaching at the intercollegiate level is preferred but not required.
  • Effective leadership skills and motivational abilities with mentoring experience.
  • Understanding and appreciation of Christian liberal arts higher education.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III and CNE Conference rules and regulations.
  • Ability to be a team player within the Department of Athletics and the institution.
  • Strong desire to work with, relate to, and develop student-athletes.
  • Sound administrative ability with emphasis on organization and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive mindset and solution-oriented leadership style.
  • Familiarity with basic computer operations and ability to use common office equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in fundraising and alumni relations.
  • Knowledge of sports administration software.
