About the position
The Head Cross Country/Track and Field Coach at Wilberforce University is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the university's competitive NAIA collegiate level program. This includes recruitment, scheduling, compliance, and promoting sportsmanship among student-athletes. The role requires effective communication with various campus constituents and the ability to serve as a positive role model. The position also involves collaboration with the Athletic Department and Student Life Division, and it is a full-time face-to-face role starting on January 3, 2025.
Responsibilities
- Recruitment of program participants
- Scheduling of events and practices
- Maintaining equipment inventory
- Promoting sportsmanship among student-athletes
- Ensuring compliance with NAIA regulations
- Effective communication with campus constituents
- Documenting recruitment and retention efforts
- Assisting in transporting student-athletes
- Serving on committees as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution (Master's Degree preferred)
- Valid, unrestricted driver's license
- Minimum of 2 years of competitive track and field coaching experience as a head or assistant coach
- Demonstrated effective recruiting and retention skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Effective computer and web-related skills
- Experience coaching Sprints, Jumps, and Hurdles
