About the position

The Head Custodian/Bus Driver position at Catawba County Schools involves dual responsibilities of maintaining cleanliness and functionality of school facilities while ensuring safe transportation of students. The role requires overseeing lower-level custodial staff and performing routine maintenance on heating and air conditioning systems, as well as driving a school bus and monitoring student behavior during transit.

Responsibilities

• Assign tasks to other custodians and demonstrate work procedures.
• Observe work of lower level custodians and identify needed improvements.
• Tend to heating and air conditioning equipment, making minor repairs and adjustments as necessary.
• Clean and polish floors, wash windows, and maintain cleanliness of the school facilities.
• Replace light bulbs and empty wastebaskets.
• Drive the bus safely to designated locations and return, ensuring compliance with traffic rules.
• Monitor students' behavior on the bus and take action to resolve incidents.
• Maintain records of work schedules and assignments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Experience in custodial work and some supervisory experience preferred.
• 5 years of responsible driving experience for the bus driver role.
• Completion of the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles Bus Driver Training Course.
• Ability to pass the required DOT Physical examination and have a DOT Drug Screen with negative results.
• Eligibility to hold a Commercial Drivers License with Passenger Endorsement.
