About the position

The Head Football Coach at Lanphier High School is responsible for leading the football program, ensuring compliance with all relevant rules and regulations, and fostering a positive environment for student-athletes. This role involves developing practice and contest schedules, managing the athletic budget, and promoting student-athlete development both on and off the field.

Responsibilities

  • Have knowledge of and enforce all school, district, conference and IHSA rules and policies
  • Develop contest and practice schedules in consultation with the athletic director, with final approval by the building principal
  • Conduct fund-raising activities with the approval of the athletic director and comply with all rules and regulations for accounting of monies collected
  • Coordinate with AD on the hiring of coaching staff
  • Provide for the purchase, use, care, maintenance and repair of athletic equipment
  • Promote positive relations by maintaining consistent communications with the news media
  • Publicly rewards player performance and good effort with praise and criticizes constructively
  • Display appropriate conduct at all times
  • Ensure all student-athletes have completed the athletic permit card, paid any applicable fees and are eligible to participate in contests
  • Promptly provide eligibility lists and update roster information as required
  • Assume all responsibility for all program levels including coordinating practice planning for all program levels
  • Supported by the selection, supervision, and evaluation of assistant coaches
  • File accident reports promptly and accurately with the athletic director
  • Conduct regular, well-organized practices, including promotion and accountability for summer conditioning to increase student-athlete safety
  • Develop player expectations and responsibilities for the program, and communicate that information to families
  • Manage the athletic budget for the program effectively including developing a plan for purchasing of team needs
  • Assist and promote student-athletes in the college recruiting process
  • Cooperate with the Athletic Director working with student-athletes outside of the regular football season
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and teaches fundamentals
  • Prepare the team for contests and effectively use coaches, players and game strategy
  • Encourage enthusiasm, motivation and sportsmanship among team members, while fostering athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth of all athletes
  • Collaborate with Football Boosters for season events and end of season banquet
  • Manage and maintain a clean football facility including offices and locker room

Requirements

  • Must be an active/retired teacher with a current, valid Illinois Teaching Certificate
  • Must be at least 19 years of age and complete an IHSA approved coaching education course
  • Applicant must also have completed training and be certified in Heart Saver AED/CPR
  • Receive training prior to the start of the IHSA approved contact sessions
  • Consistently communicate with parents and families regarding expectations and schedules
