About the position

Cambly is on a mission to provide high-quality English education to learners worldwide, and we are seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to lead our Accounting team. This pivotal role is part of the Finance leadership team and is crucial for our fast-growing company. As the Corporate Controller, you will be responsible for all accounting activities, including financial reporting, general ledger management, revenue recognition under ASC 606, accounts receivable, accounts payable, stock administration, tax, treasury, payroll, and audit functions. You will work closely with leaders across the organization, empowering your team to build and scale our Accounting function effectively. In this high-visibility role, you will lead a team to oversee and execute all accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other government regulations. You will execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, prepare financial statements, and manage tax planning and compliance. Additionally, you will lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement improved accounting policies, procedures, and technology solutions, enhancing business operations while managing risk through a comprehensive internal control environment. Collaboration with FP&A teams for financial analysis and reporting, as well as partnering with cross-functional teams to assess the accounting implications of key business deals, will be essential. We are looking for a hands-on manager who thrives in a fast-paced, start-up environment. You should possess strong financial, accounting, and management skills, along with a keen business sense. The ability to understand and direct the big picture while being detail-oriented is critical for success in this role. You will also be responsible for scaling and mentoring a high-performing accounting team, ensuring they deliver outstanding results in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to oversee and execute all Accounting functions including financial reporting, revenue recognition, general ledger management, AR/AP, stock administration, tax, treasury, and payroll.
  • Execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, financial statement preparation, and tax planning and compliance.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the development, implementation, and oversight of improved company-wide accounting policies, procedures, technology solutions, and controls.
  • Partner with FP&A teams on financial analysis and reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine the accounting implications of key business deals.
  • Scale and mentor a high-performing accounting team.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of accounting experience with time spent in public accounting and/or senior leadership roles within high-growth public technology (Marketplace and/or Subscription experience preferred).
  • CPA with BS/BA in Accounting/Finance.
  • Expert knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including familiarity with accounting positions and related guidance and other international entities (experience with ASC 606 required).
  • Ability to understand and navigate challenging, complex, and cross-functional business problems; drive accounting-led initiatives and/or contribute deep domain expertise and recommendations to non-accounting-led initiatives.
  • Experience implementing systems to achieve scalability and efficiency of the business and accounting functions.
  • Strong people management experience and proven ability to deliver outstanding results through others in a timely manner using a strong sense of focus, organization, and thoughtful team design.
  • Ability to function at high levels of business strategy but also willing to dive into the weeds and operate hands-on.
