About the position

The Head of FOCUS Product / Principal Product Manager at the FinOps Foundation is responsible for leading the FOCUS Project, providing product ownership and subject matter expertise. This role involves defining the product roadmap, managing release planning, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders. The position requires collaboration with various teams and community members to advance the goals of the FinOps Foundation and support the practice of FinOps.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the FOCUS Product roadmap, including release plans for Project development.
  • Represent the FinOps Foundation in defining features and releases that support FinOps practices.
  • Support maintainers, contributors, and task forces in grooming the backlog of feature development requests.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with FOCUS Maintainers and FinOps Foundation FOCUS User Group leads.
  • Communicate with representatives of cloud service provider members to guide their efforts.
  • Provide thought leadership and content expertise to ensure progress toward goals and deadlines.
  • Develop and promote communication of FOCUS Project goals and plans to the FinOps community.
  • Speak and present at FOCUS meetings, FinOps events, and industry forums.
  • Support the development of FOCUS-based deliverables and assets for the community.
  • Gather requirements from FinOps practitioners for FOCUS use cases.

Requirements

  • Successful experience managing a technology or cloud product with a multi-year roadmap.
  • Deep understanding of cloud billing data, SaaS billing data, and financial management.
  • Experience as a user of cloud services and understanding of all categories of cloud services.
  • Experience in one or more FinOps Persona roles with knowledge of other personas' objectives.
  • Multiple years of experience in the FinOps community as a practitioner or consultant.
  • Experience with data structures, data schemas, and data analytics in big data infrastructures.
  • Technical experience with data management concepts and data manipulation software.
  • Experience using GitHub, Google Workspace tools, Zoom, and Slack.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage complex issues and interpersonal challenges effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in an open-source environment with volunteers from competing organizations.
  • Ability to coordinate win-win outcomes from conflicts among coworkers or volunteers.
