About the position

Twilio is seeking a Head of Machine Learning Engineering to lead and innovate in applied Machine Learning, focusing on enhancing communication products through advanced technologies such as natural language processing and speech recognition. This role involves managing teams, driving the architecture of machine learning systems, and ensuring the successful deployment of AI solutions in production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a talented team of machine learning engineers and distributed systems engineers.
  • Drive the architecture of machine learning systems and ensure high availability and scalability.
  • Create, own, and operate machine learning platforms, REST APIs, microservices, and data pipelines.
  • Evangelize the application of machine learning across Twilio's product lines.
  • Engage with the broader machine learning community to leverage state-of-the-art advancements.

Requirements

  • 10 years of people management and leadership experience with a track record of hiring and developing high-performance teams.
  • Master's degree in a machine learning field, including but not limited to Natural Language Processing or Speech Recognition.
  • Deep experience in machine learning and deep learning design and implementation at both the algorithm and system architecture levels.
  • Proven ability to build high-impact machine learning products that positively affect the bottom line.
  • Experience in deploying machine learning models in production environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in building complex distributed systems with high reliability and scalability.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with ML and NLP tools such as TensorFlow, spaCy, and scikit-learn.
  • Experience interfacing with data pipelines and data stores like MySQL, DynamoDB, and Kafka.
