About the position

The Head of Management Liability - Financial Institutions Claims at AXIS Capital is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the Management Liability Claims for AXIS Insurance North America. This position involves managing a team of claims professionals, developing industry-leading claims strategies, and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective claims handling and resolution. The role requires a strong focus on leadership, strategic direction, and relationship management within the claims department.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of claims professionals handling Management Liability Claims.
  • Engage in the investigation, analysis, and evaluation of coverage liability and damages.
  • Provide technical advice, training, and guidance to direct reports and adjusters.
  • Recruit, hire, and retain top talent while developing succession plans.
  • Review management liability claims to determine nature of loss and guide strategic direction for claims settlement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners as the lead contact for assigned claims.
  • Collaborate with the Specialty Complex Claims team on coverage disputes and litigation matters.
  • Escalate coverage issues and recommend outside counsel assignments when necessary.
  • Formulate claims and litigation strategies, managing outside counsel effectively.
  • Manage costs associated with coverage counsel and litigation, ensuring cost management and enhancement of counsel panel.
  • Communicate extensively with senior executives, brokers, reinsurers, and other stakeholders.
  • Support underwriting inquiries and provide data analysis and risk assessments.
  • Maintain documentation of key line of business statistics and metrics.
  • Lead presentations and discussions with Underwriters and Insureds on large losses and claim trends.
  • Participate in claim audits and formal result reporting.
  • Develop a best-in-class Panel for middle market segments of CMS and FI Claims.
  • Manage and review KPIs related to claims performance and staffing needs.
  • Identify liability and coverage trends and formulate strategies for handling claims.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports, providing feedback for professional growth.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience handling or leading complex Management Liability claims.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and meet deadlines in a challenging environment.
  • High exposure/complex claim exposure evaluation skills.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and management skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate at all organizational levels.
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to drive results in legal and claims processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of claims, litigation, arbitration, and trial processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience practicing law in addition to claims management.
  • Familiarity with KPI, Data, and Metrics.
  • Valid adjuster licenses by state as required.
