About the position

As the Head of Municipal Credit, you will be responsible for leading a credit team and managing the entire research process for municipal fixed income portfolios. This role involves overseeing 17,000 Separately Managed Accounts and a 2A-7 Money Market Fund, ensuring that investment and divestment recommendations are developed through comprehensive top-down and bottom-up research. You will set and monitor risk limits, ensuring that the portfolios are managed effectively and in alignment with the firm's investment strategies. In addition to managing the research process, you will spearhead automation projects aimed at creating efficiencies and controlling costs. This includes maintaining and improving an automated account onboarding tool, which is crucial for reducing credit risk and enhancing operational efficiency. You will also focus on credit risk evaluation, collaborating with internal teams and external developers to streamline processes. Your role will extend to marketing efforts, where you will engage with current and prospective clients through phone and video conferences, as well as in-person presentations. As a mentor to analysts on your team, you will demonstrate your leadership capabilities and foster their professional development. Responsibilities

  • Manage the entire research process for municipal fixed income portfolios with 4 direct reports.
  • Lead the credit team in developing investment/divestment recommendations through comprehensive research.
  • Set and monitor risk limits for municipal fixed income portfolios.
  • Oversee automation projects to create efficiencies and control costs.
  • Maintain and improve an automated account onboarding tool to reduce credit risk.
  • Collaborate with internal groups and outside developers to enhance credit risk evaluation processes.
  • Assist in marketing efforts through client presentations and conferences.
  • Mentor analysts on the team and demonstrate leadership capabilities.

Requirements

  • 10-20 years of experience in municipal fixed income and portfolio management.
  • Proven experience in risk management and buy-side investment research.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Familiarity with PERFORM, CREDIT SCOPE, and SMART systems is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Bloomberg is required.
  • MBA or CFA completion is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in managing tax-exempt Ladder strategies with significant AUM.
  • Knowledge of cash management strategies for client accounts.
