About the position

The Cities and Local Growth Unit (CLGU) is seeking a leader to drive its policy responsibilities and enhance its impact within the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). This role involves coordinating efforts to support local economic growth, manage the Growth Hubs network, and contribute to the Small Business Plan and Industrial Strategy. The position requires collaboration across departments to ensure effective delivery of initiatives aimed at revitalizing high streets and supporting local businesses.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership on CLGU's policy responsibilities to maximize its impact in both DBT and MHCLG.
• Design and implement day-to-day processes and programs to connect CLGU's local intelligence with other DBT teams.
• Lead and coordinate CLGU's contribution to the DBT Industrial Strategy and Small Business Plan.
• Manage the Growth Hubs network to ensure maximum contribution to the Small Business Plan.
• Collaborate with DBT colleagues to deliver a coordinated offer to major UK cities.
• Bring together cross-CLGU contributions to address ad hoc priorities in both Departments, including devolution and emergency responses.
• Lead a team to achieve these goals while fostering an inclusive and dynamic team culture.

Requirements

• Proven experience in policy development and implementation within government or related sectors.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Experience in economic development or local growth initiatives.
• Ability to analyze and synthesize complex information to inform decision-making.
