About the position

The Corporate Function Program Management Office (CFPMO) at MassMutual is seeking an experienced program manager to lead the project portfolio across various Corporate Functions, including Investment Management, Corporate Finance, and Enterprise Risk Management. This role is pivotal in establishing the new organization and ensuring the effective delivery of projects within these functions. As the project portfolio leader, you will report directly to the Head of the CFPMO and will be responsible for setting up, influencing, facilitating, and monitoring the delivery structure for projects. You will also drive the implementation of defined project management processes and standards across your assigned portfolio. In this highly visible position, you will collaborate closely with the CFPMO team, senior leadership, and project teams to manage and monitor project delivery structures. Your leadership will be crucial in advising on project management standards and overseeing project management professionals. You will contribute to the continuous improvement strategies of the CFPMO, ensuring that project management processes are effectively implemented within the Corporate Functions to enhance planning, execution, and overall project success. Your role will involve building strong relationships with senior leaders to foster effective cross-functional discussions and decision-making. You will lead large, complex programs from ideation to implementation, guiding teams through planning and ensuring adherence to project goals, timelines, and budgets. Additionally, you will mentor and manage project management resources, promoting a culture of transparency and collaboration while monitoring project portfolio performance and facilitating the escalation of risks and issues. As a strategic thought partner, you will provide coaching and guidance to the CFPMO team and senior leadership, ensuring that diverse perspectives are valued and included in the project management process. This role is essential for driving the success of the Corporate Function project portfolio and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the CFPMO.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the CFPMO team, Corporate Function senior leadership, and project teams to setup, manage, and monitor project delivery structures for your assigned project portfolio.
  • Lead major programs, advise on and influence PM standards, and oversee PM professionals as well as contribute to and establish the implementation and continuous improvement strategies of the new CFPMO.
  • Serve as the CFMPO Project Portfolio Leader for Investment Management, Corporate Finance, and Enterprise Risk Management functions.
  • Support the development of the new CFPMO organization and the implementation of PM processes and standards within select Corporate Functions to improve planning, execution, and position greater project success.
  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders and drive effective cross-functional discussions and decisioning within assigned Corporate Functions to enhance collaboration, instill consistency, and promote discipline in defining and managing the delivery of the Corporate Function project portfolio.
  • Lead large, complex programs and projects within assigned Corporate Functions from ideation to implementation, guiding teams through planning, advising on PM standards based on project complexity, and managing / monitoring overall delivery against not only achievement of project goals / objectives but also adherence to timeline and budget.
  • Lead, mentor, enable, and manage the needs for and performance of project management resources within assigned Corporate Functions to ensure effective allocation of resources, delivery of projects, and encourage and support the development of others.
  • Monitor project portfolio performance across assigned Corporate Functions and facilitate escalation of any risks, issues, or dependencies by promoting a culture of transparency, collaboration, and inclusion by seeking and valuing diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
  • Provide strategic thought partnership, sound perspective, coaching and guidance to the CFPMO team, Corporate Function senior leadership, and your assigned Corporate Function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7+ years of experience in project management
  • Proven success in delivering projects on time, within budget, and to scope
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies
  • Proficiency in project management software including but not limited to MS Project, Smartsheet, and Jira, as well as dashboarding and visualization tools (e.g., MicroStrategy, Tableau, PowerBI)

Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years of program and project management experience
  • 7+ years of experience leading and managing people/teams
  • 5+ years of experience leading, managing, or contributing to projects within Investment Management, Corporate Finance, and/or Enterprise Risk functions
  • Robust knowledge of Investment Management, Corporate Finance, and/or Enterprise Risk Management domains, acumen, processes, and systems as well as interdependencies between end-to-end or shared processes
  • Experience in financial services
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent
  • Agile/Waterfall project management experience
  • Robust knowledge and experience with best practices, especially related to communications, reporting, prioritization, capacity and resource planning, forecasting, financial planning, and performance measurement
