The Head of the Science Department at The Hotchkiss School is responsible for leading and managing the department with a focus on fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Science Department, focusing on teaching and curricular matters.
• Recruit, hire, evaluate, and foster the development of faculty and staff.
• Encourage collaboration and creativity among teachers.
• Provide constructive feedback and support professional growth for instructors.
• Design effective programs of study and support teaching methodologies.
• Oversee departmental budget and fiscal practices.
• Manage course offerings and student placements.
• Represent the department to the school community and external constituencies.
• Facilitate communication regarding departmental concerns with parents and students.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a science-related field is required.
• Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
• Several years of teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred.
• Supervisory experience is preferred or willingness to engage in professional development.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in interdisciplinary curriculum development.
• Varsity-level experience in girls' basketball or volleyball.
