About the position

As Head of Strategic Risk Management at Guardian Life Insurance Company, you will lead a team focused on optimizing and managing enterprise risks to help achieve the company's strategic objectives. This role involves coordinating high-profile risk mitigation projects, collaborating with various departments, and developing risk management strategies in partnership with the Chief Risk Officer (CRO). You will be responsible for identifying emerging risks, fostering a culture of risk awareness, and mentoring a team of risk professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team responsible for managing high-profile risk mitigation projects.
  • Coordinate efforts across departments to define problem statements and identify root causes.
  • Design mitigation strategies and oversee the implementation of solutions.
  • Partner with the CRO to prioritize Top Risks for the company and develop remediation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Guardian Leadership Team to align risk management with the company's overall strategy.
  • Develop contingency plans for critical risk areas and ensure effective risk transfer strategies are in place.
  • Pull together subject matter experts to ensure stakeholder buy-in for risk plans.
  • Identify and assess emerging risks and develop comprehensive reporting for the CRO and the Corporate Risk Management Committee.
  • Foster a culture of risk awareness and risk-based decision-making throughout the organization.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of risk professionals, providing guidance and ensuring continuous professional development.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in managing large scale projects for financial institutions, preferably within the life insurance industry.
  • Deep knowledge of business resiliency planning and risk management methodologies and models.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude that brings energy to others.
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness in managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to take complex issues and simplify for execution.
