About the position

The Head Coach of Softball at MCLA is responsible for managing all aspects of the softball program, including supervising staff and student-athletes, recruiting, scheduling, and promoting the program. The role requires a commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes while ensuring compliance with NCAA regulations. The coach will also engage in community outreach and fundraising efforts to support the program.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage all aspects of the softball program.
  • Supervise and mentor assigned staff and student-athletes.
  • Recruit athletes capable of performing at desired levels and completing their degrees.
  • Design and implement a training program to enhance individual and team performance.
  • Develop a competitive schedule that maximizes athlete development.
  • Communicate expectations to achieve a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Meet recruitment, retention, and graduation rate goals set by Athletic Administration.
  • Relate well to officials, coaches, parents, media, alumni, and the public.
  • Model standards of conduct and behavior to athletes.
  • Work cooperatively with the Director of Athletics on budgeting and inventory management.
  • Mentor and supervise assistant coaches to develop their capabilities.
  • Attend and represent MCLA Athletics at various campus events.
  • Conduct community outreach programs and fundraising events.
  • Promote the program and department on social media.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred.
  • College level coaching or relevant coaching/playing experience.
  • Proven ability to recruit athletes.
  • Awareness of higher education principles and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse personnel.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative.
