About the position

The Head Start Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting children to and from their destinations while ensuring their well-being and comfort. This role involves conducting bus inspections, maintaining safety protocols, and collaborating with Head Start Center staff to create a secure environment for children. The driver also engages with children to promote a positive and educational atmosphere during transportation.

Responsibilities

• Pick up, transport, and drop off Head Start children within scheduled times.
• Complete required bus inspections and maintenance.
• Ensure safety and operation measures are followed during transportation.
• Work closely with Head Start Center staff to maintain a child-safe environment.
• Engage in educational and classroom functions to maintain discipline and comfort for children.
• Report any delays, accidents, or incidents regarding child health and behavior.
• Physically assist children with safety measures such as safety seats and evacuation drills.
• Oversee and train parents on bus safety protocols.
• Assist in classroom activities and recruitment efforts.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement.
• Favorable background investigation.
• Pass a physical examination with tuberculosis (TB) clearance prior to hire.
• Food handler's certificate, First Aid/CPR, and Fire Safety Certificate.

• Knowledge of early childhood development and education.
• Knowledge of laws, regulations, and tribal policies on child care.
• Understanding of Navajo culture and traditions.
• Ability to communicate in Navajo and English.
