About the position

The Head Start Pre School Teacher Assistant position is designed to work collaboratively with the lead teacher to create a nurturing and educational environment for preschool children. This role involves assisting in the development and implementation of activities that align with educational objectives and performance standards. The Teacher Assistant will support the teacher in various tasks, including preparing learning materials, providing instructional services, and maintaining student records. The position requires a commitment to fostering a clean, safe, and engaging classroom environment that reflects the cultural backgrounds of the children and families served. In this role, the Teacher Assistant will participate in the screening and observation of students, documenting their progress using the GOLD online system. Responsibilities also include maintaining various student records such as portfolios, checklists, and logs related to classroom activities. The Teacher Assistant will ensure compliance with all educational and safety policies, contributing to the overall well-being of the children in their care. Additional duties may include generating documentation for in-kind and volunteer time, assisting with meal count documentation for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and providing support to students with behavioral needs. The Teacher Assistant may also take on a leadership role in the absence of the teacher and may be required to conduct home visits as needed. This position is essential in creating a positive learning atmosphere and supporting the educational goals of the Head Start program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher in developing activities for preschool children.
  • Provide instructional services to students under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
  • Participate in the screening, observation, and documentation of student progress in the GOLD online system.
  • Record and maintain student records such as portfolios and checklists.
  • Ensure the classroom environment is clean and orderly.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with educational and safety policies for children.
  • Generate and document in-kind and volunteer time sheets.
  • Contribute to the documentation processes for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Assist with students exhibiting behavioral or management needs.
  • Assume the lead role in the teacher's absence.
  • Conduct home visits with the teacher as required.

Requirements

  • 1 - 3 years of experience in early childhood education or related field.
  • Some college education in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Valid Child Development Associate (CDA) Certification is required.
