About the position

The Head Start Teacher 2 position is a full-time role within the Metro Action Commission, designed to support the development of children in a Head Start program. This position operates under the direct supervision of the Head Start Center Manager and the general supervision of the Head Start Assistant Center Manager. The primary focus of the Head Start Teacher 2 is to foster the social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development of children in their care. This involves planning, documenting, and implementing daily lesson plans and special activities that cater to the diverse needs of the children. In addition to lesson planning, the Head Start Teacher 2 is responsible for maintaining current records related to the education component, ensuring confidentiality, and performing various tasks associated with the educational framework. The teacher will also engage in regular consultations with parents, providing updates on their child's progress and addressing any concerns. Supervision of children is paramount, and the teacher must ensure proper oversight both indoors and outdoors, creating a safe and nurturing environment. The role also includes documenting and integrating various component events into the classroom activities, such as health services preparation and community visits. The Head Start Teacher 2 is expected to report any concerns regarding children to the assigned Parent, Family, Community, and Engagement Advocate and to notify the immediate supervisor of any suspected child abuse or neglect. Additionally, the teacher will implement family-style food service daily and support volunteers who assist in the education program. Other task-related duties may be assigned as needed, making this a dynamic and engaging role within the Head Start framework.

Responsibilities

  • Help children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally
  • Plan, document, and implement daily lesson plans and special activities
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and other related meetings as requested
  • Responsible for all consultation(s) with parents
  • Maintain current records, perform tasks associated with the education component, and assure confidentiality
  • Maintain proper supervision of children at all times indoors and outdoors
  • Document and implement integration of component events in the classroom
  • Report any children concerns to the assigned Parent, Family, Community, and Engagement Advocate
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect to the immediate supervisor
  • Ensure daily implementation of the family style food service
  • Support and assist volunteers serving in the education program
  • Assume other task-related duties as requested

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Valid Driver License
  • Official College Transcripts

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work experience with young children
  • Certification in Early Childhood Education
