About the position

The Head Start Teacher is responsible for providing a safe and high-quality educational environment for children enrolled in Head Start/Early Head Start programs. This role focuses on promoting school readiness through the development of individual learning goals, ongoing assessment, and the implementation of effective teaching strategies. The teacher collaborates with families and staff to ensure the holistic development of each child, addressing their social-emotional, cognitive, and physical needs.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Head Start's Performance Standards and Early Learning Outcomes.
  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans based on child assessment data.
  • Assess children's knowledge and developmental stages.
  • Communicate and collaborate with teaching staff and families.
  • Provide direction to Teacher Assistants and/or Teacher Aides.
  • Complete required documentation timely and accurately.
  • Engage parents in their children's learning.
  • Implement positive strategies to support children's well-being.
  • Supervise children during all activities.
  • Conduct family-style meals promoting nutrition and social skills.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
  • Prepare individualized curriculum including IEP goals.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Safeguard classroom equipment and materials.
  • Update assessment data on children's progress.
  • Provide effective teacher/child interactions to promote School Readiness.
  • Design and manage a nurturing learning environment.
  • Plan developmentally appropriate activities weekly.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Use various strategies to group children for instruction.
  • Employ different teaching strategies for successful learning.
  • Conduct daily observations and quarterly assessments.
  • Communicate with parents regarding children's progress.
  • Attend monthly parent meetings and utilize family resources.
  • Report suspected neglect or abuse to the supervisor.
  • Ensure children's files are complete and confidential.
  • Transport equipment and materials as needed.
  • Conduct screenings and conferences as required.
  • Participate in staff development and training activities.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Travel for business-related activities as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or 12 hours in ECE/CD from an accredited program.
  • 6 months experience working with young children in an educational role.
