About the position

The Head Swim Team Coach at Duncan YMCA is responsible for providing leadership, instruction, and motivation to participants in a competitive swimming environment. The role emphasizes creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety, youth development, and healthy living in accordance with YMCA standards. The coach will lead workouts, teach swimming skills, organize practices, and coordinate swim competitions while ensuring compliance with all safety and operational procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and instruction to swim team participants.
  • Create a safe and positive environment for all members.
  • Teach competitive swimming skills and stroke development.
  • Organize and schedule practices and coordinate volunteer recruitment.
  • Coordinate swim competitions and manage meet registrations.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and progress.
  • Perform daily equipment checks and ensure availability of necessary equipment.
  • Attend staff meetings, swim meets, and training sessions as required.
  • Provide guidance and support to assistant coaches, volunteers, and parents.
  • Report any suspicious behaviors and policy violations.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • At least 5 years older than the oldest youth participant.
  • Minimum of one year of swim instruction or swim team instruction experience.
  • Current certifications in American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches or equivalent.
  • Current certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in organizing swim competitions.
  • Additional certifications in aquatics education or coaching.
