About the position
The Head Tennis Coach at Central Catholic High School is responsible for instructing and developing student athletes in the fundamentals of tennis. This role involves planning and leading practice sessions, motivating athletes, and ensuring their safety and proper use of equipment. The coach will also evaluate players' fitness levels and potential, adapting coaching strategies to enhance performance. The position emphasizes the importance of Catholic values in coaching and requires a commitment to the mission of the Church.
Responsibilities
- Educates individuals, students, or teams on the rules, strategies, and techniques for tennis.
- Plans, organizes, and leads practice sessions.
- Trains, encourages, and motivates athletes to prepare them for games and competitive events.
- Teaches safety rules and regulations and ensures they are enforced.
- Develops physical conditioning programs that equip athletes to meet their potential.
- Evaluates team members to determine fitness levels and potential; assigns positions or roles to athletes based on strengths and weaknesses.
- Ensures athletes are using equipment properly and safely.
- Identifies the strengths and weaknesses of players and modifies coaching strategies accordingly.
- Remains current on changes in rules, coaching philosophies and techniques, and technology relevant to tennis.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in physical education or related field.
- Two years of experience as an athletic coach preferred.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Trained preferred, must complete within 1 year of employment and keep certificate active.
- Excellent leadership and motivational skills.
- Extensive knowledge of tennis.
- Ability to work with student athletes.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience coaching at the high school level.
- Knowledge of sports psychology and athlete development.
