About the position

The Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy (IMSA) is seeking a Head Coach for the high school boys tennis team for the Spring 2025 season, with the potential to also coach the girls team in Fall 2025. The primary focus is on hiring the right candidate for the boys team, with the possibility of expanding the role to include the girls team. This stipend position is based on coaching experience and years involved in the sport, requiring the candidate to manage practices, coordinate matches, and ensure athlete performance through various drills and conditioning.

Responsibilities

• Conduct practices with varying tennis drills and conditioning to enhance athlete performance.
• Work with the Coordinator of Athletics & Co-Curriculars to develop a competitive season of matches.
• Coordinate with food service staff to provide meals for athletes when off campus.
• Attend practices and matches from the start of the high school season to potential state finals.
• Supervise any overnight stays needed for postseason competition during the state series.
• Transport students to practices and matches throughout the high school season.

Requirements

• Experience in a high school coaching role or club setting is preferred.
• Ability to pass a background check and CPR/AED basic life-saving course.
• Possess a valid Illinois driver's license to operate IMSA vehicles, including a 14 passenger mini-bus.
• Completion certificate of an approved IHSA coaching course (ASEP) or a valid teaching or administrative certificate, or be retired from teaching.
• Completion of all IHSA mandatory training modules and any State of Illinois mandated training modules.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience coaching both boys and girls tennis teams.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
